Fifty-Two Weeks [Week 36]

Spent 11 days in New York (including travel), so picking just one photo from that week was not an easy task. In the end I picked my favourite photo from my trip to New York; it's the view towards Empire State Building and downtown Manhattan from the Top of the Rock (at the top of the Rockefeller Centre).

I will write a post about my trip to New York when I get a chance (probably during my christmas holiday at this rate), and I'll post more photos as well.

Fifty-Two Weeks [week 21]

I mentioned my most recent tattoo a while back, and ended up linking to an Instagram photo of it since it was the only one I could find at the time. This is a black and white photo of it, and my second newest tattoo (which is the text on my wrist). The heart shaped balloon is red, the rest of it is black. The actual picture (girl and heart shaped balloon) is by Banksy, a UK based graffiti artist (wikipedia page here).

Fifty-Two Weeks [week 18]

It's been a crazy few weeks shifts-wise at work, and I don't know where the weeks have gone. And I've built up some more backlog of my weekly photos that haven't been posted. So there will be 5 or 6 done this week.. Can't believe it's June already, and although it feels like only yesterday day the week 18 photo was taken back in April. Just after my birthday at the end of April I went down to London for the day, and last thing I did that day was to go up into The Shard to The View from the Shard. And the view from up there was amazing!

Below is just one of the many photos I took during the couple of hours I spent there.

Fifty-Two Weeks [week 14]

My little stack of photography books :) The top one is the Humans of New York book. Love the concept of what he (Brandon Stanton) does, and bought myself the book as an early christmas present last year. The book has been an inspiration, and has also in part fuelled my dreams of going to New York. There is also the HONY Facebook page, giving you your fix right there as you are wasting time on Facebook ;)

Fifty-Two Weeks [week 12]

Went into Jessops not last weekend but the one before (15-Mar) to drool over photography gear.. and ended up buying the Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM lens.. whoops ;)Given that it takes a ridiculously large filter (82mm) they had to order one in since the only ones they had in store at the time was some £130 ones. And I'm all for UV filters and they're easily replaceable if scratched etc, but £130 for one seemed a bit excessive. I exercised some restraint and didn't use the lens until the Wednesday when I was on late shift and could pick up the filter from the shop.

The photo below is one of 30-odd photos I took having a quick wander around town before my shift. Still getting used to just how much fits in the frame with such a wide lens, but looking forward to taking it with me on a trip to London or something. And will definitely take it if (no, I should say when) I go on holiday to New York in August/September (money permitting) :D

Fifty-Two Weeks [week 11]

Had a wander around town on Saturday, mainly because the weather was nice, but also to test out the geotagging app I'd downloaded earlier in the week. The geotagging app, called Geotag Photos Pro, worked a treat. I've just uploaded my file and have geotagged the photos I took on my DSLR on Saturday :)

As it was nice weather on Saturday the fountain on Old Market Square was full of children running around playing in the water (like it was summer or something). This little girl was definitely enjoying herself.

Fifty-Two Weeks [week 10]

So Thursday this week was World Book Day. I have a bit of a thing for books, you could say.. These are some books I've gotten in the last couple of months. Currently they actually live on my desk, in a pile, because I've run out of room in my bookcase.. I was 11 or 12 I think when I read my first fantasy novel - it was The Belgariad by David Eddings. Now, I was a bit of a book enthusiast before then; but those books are what got me into the fantasy (and later sic-fi) genre. I stopped reading novels translated into Swedish when I was about 16 and I got fed up of waiting for the latest book in the Wheel of Time series. Got the English one from the school library, and haven't looked back since. To this day however, I have still not read The Belgariad in English.

To be honest I have not been reading as much as I used to in the last few years. And really, I need to stop buying more books - I've got plenty of them which I haven't read yet already. I got myself a Kindle a couple of years ago, but I don't know.. there something special about an actual book. The last book I read was The Shack, which I got for christmas 2012. I read the first half on my way over to Sweden for christmas, and the other half on my way back home. Just could not put it down when I started reading it.

Fifty-Two Weeks [week 5]

Saturday last weekend I had a wander around town and tried out my lens. I got the Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM as a bit of a "spur of the moment"-purchase when buying a flash gun (the Canon Speedlite 430EX II) since Canon was doing a winter sale cash back offer. I already love my Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens, so buying the 40mm one seemed like a good idea. It might be my imagination, but the photos taken with the 40mm lens seem sharper than those taken using the 50mm lens. Either way, I am well pleased with the new lens - and it's taken me a while to decide on which photo to post for last week. The photo below is down Market Street towards Old Market Square.

Honourable mentions

There were some photos which were strong contenders when choosing the photo for week 3 of the fifty-two weeks project. Below are a few of them. The side street next to one of the larger shopping centres in Stockholm city centre. Regeringsgatan, around the corner from Gallerian.

[Camera used: Canon EOS 600D w. Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II lens]

One of the things I love about Stockholm is that it's on the water. This is the view from Strömbron.

Sunset from Riksbron.

Fifty-Two Weeks [week 3]

This was the week when I was in Sweden, and there were some good photos to choose from (even though I only went in to Stockholm with my camera one day). I will post some of the other photos which only just lost out to the one below at a later stage. The photo which I picked just reminds me of home I suppose. Love these lights my parents have hanging over the back door in the kitchen. I would steal them and take them with me home, but don't think that would go down too well with mum ;)

30-day challenge day 29

Day 29: 08-Nov-2013

Has to be said, Evernote is one of my favourite apps and I use it on a pretty much daily basis. They do mobile apps as well as desktop apps, it's free, and will let you sync notes between your devices on your account. Used my Lensbaby Composer lens for the first time in a while when taking today's photo, and I think I have to get it out more often :)

30-day challenge days 26-28

Day 26: 05-Nov-2013

Tuesday was Bonfire Night, and after dinner with some friends we walked down to the Forest Recreation ground and watched the fireworks. This is one of the many photos I took. Didn't bring my Canon 600D but instead used my iPhone - and the burst mode came in handy when it came to photographing fireworks.

Day 27: 06-Nov-2013

This was when I was waiting for the bus on my way home from work. Can tell autumn is here and normal British weather service has been resumed ;)

[Camera used: iPhone 5S]

Day 28: 07-Nov-2013

Had a wander around town before heading to church yesterday evening. Can remember the name of the road, but it's around the corner from the newly build student housing and the Travel Inn (?) hotel in town. Took some of the newly built student housing as well, but this one won out over the others for the 30-day challenge.

30-day challenge days 24 and 25

Day 24: 03-Nov-2013

Ok, so yesterday I spent most of the day on my sofa feeling like I was coughing my lungs up (stupid cold.. :/ ) and had an afternoon nap (after having not gotten much sleep during the night). So, to sum things up I didn’t get much done yesterday. Which is also why the photo for yesterday was a bit of a last minute thing, and technically it was probably taken after midnight.. But my 30-day challenge, my rules - so I say it still counts ;)

[Camera used: Canon EOS 600D w. Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens]

Day 25: 04-Nov-2013

Lovely day today - clear blue sky and a bit cold :) ventured as far as the alleyway that my front door faces onto ;P still, it’s the first time I’ve even opened the front door since getting back from town on Saturday. At least I got a bit of fresh air, and the photo turned out alright as well :)

30-day challenge days 20-23

Hmm.. have built up a bit of a back log again this week..

Day 20: 30-Oct-2013

The Elite building in town. Waiting for the bus to go to work, and it was a really nice morning - clear blue sky, and a bit cold.

[Camera used: iPhone 4S]

Day 21: 31-Oct-2013

This was on the notice board in the prayer room in the Inspire building by church :)

[Camera used: iPhone 4S]

Day 22: 01-Nov-2013

Persistent little plant on the stone wall for St. John’s Church along Church Drive. One of the many plant still green even though it’s now getting to the beginning of November.

[Camera used: Canon EOS 600D w. Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens]

Day 23: 02-Nov-2013

Some of the leaves have started coming off the trees, especially as it’s been windy the last couple of day. Just liked the colours on this one and how the leaves matches the yellow road markings.
